Romney Forced to Apologize to Palin…Yet Again
Hopefully common sense and a little growing-up will prevail in the Romney camp. America deserves better and so does Sarah Palin.
This week’s dust-up between rival 2012 Presidential ‘camps’ identified some tensions that will no doubt surface again. As Palin supporters well remember, this is the second time in two years Mitt Romney had to apologize to Sarah.
The first came when he and Congressman Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) began an ill-conceived redefining of the GOP following the 2008 election. When asked at that time about Sarah Palin’s future role in the GOP Romney made a backhanded comment that pretty much said she was good looking but little else. Few found his intemperate remark funny and Romney’s strange alliance with Cantor and their new organization ‘listening tour’ quickly fell apart.
No-one disputes Romney’s aspirations as a candidate...what is in dispute is that Romney was maddeningly silent for more than a year as the media savaged Sarah Palin and her family.

He did nothing…absolutely nothing…to call for fairness or an end to the daily witch hunt. This will be to his lasting shame for it evidenced a desire to maintain friendships with mainstream media types rather than do what was right by Palin and American democracy.
As we know Sarah is one very tough American and she will be a worthy adversary for Romney or Obama as current polling shows. However, the ferocity and cowardice of the staffers who made comments about Palin’s intelligence or seriousness as a mother, politician and leader are rare.

We did believe they were from Romney staffers/followers and said so in our own ‘Tweets’. Apparently, however, they were from a website supporting Romney in 2012. What was confounding is their Twitter accounts had so few followers and yet they somehow reacted immediately to our story. We are not naïve about how blogging works and found their diatribe-like responses curious. They should have been concerned about the TIME article not our reporting. Since then most of the media picked up on the story and Romney himself was forced to respond.
Romney’s Twittered apology and rebuke of his staffers reads as follows: “Anonymous numbskulls. She’s proven her smarts; they’ve disproven theirs.”
Let us hope the Romney folks will aim their future fire at Obama and Pelosi, etc. and not Sarah Palin. Time will tell. What we do know is Romney supporters are very sensitive on the subject of Sarah Palin. They know they are finished if they attack her.
