A Weak President Decides to Ignore the Voice of the People

The weakness of the Obama Presidency, and indeed the man himself, was on full display last night.
In a speech made necessary by the fact the American people stood up during the summer to provide a resounding ‘No’ to a government takeover of healthcare, the President did not even acknowledge that, in our nation, the people rule not the President.
Not only did the President discard the voices and concerns of the people he chose to ridicule them. In other words, those who oppose ‘him’ are beneath contempt because they get in the way of ‘his’ vision of nationalized health care.
What the President proved again last night is that he is not comfortable with the concept of American liberty. He does not understand the majesty of American freedom and innovation that has made this country exceptional.
It’s evident President Obama is shallow because he always tends to lecture the people and not listen to them. The President takes open debate as a personal slight. The President feels he can repeat falsehoods on policy believing his adoring elitist followers in the media will continue to cover for him. On this last point he is correct they will cover for him.
The President also took another gratuitous slap at Governor Sarah Palin. Now remember, on election night last November he praised Sarah Palin and spoke of her future contributions to the nation. But like most all of his other pronouncements this proved to be empty rhetoric. He has not sought the opinion of a wide range of political talent in this country. Instead he continues to counsel with the elitist radicals who still believe that the government’s money somehow is theirs to abuse. They couldn’t care less that government ‘runs’ off the back of taxpayers being savaged by this Administration’s spending.
So in the end this President says we must have his health care program or nothing. The public has spoken on this issue and spoken loudly that we prefer nothing over his program. It’s a shocking spectacle to have the President of the United States tell us that the voice of the people means nothing because he his smarter, wiser and better informed than anyone else. Thankfully the American people will recognize this to be an arrogance to be fought with voices and with votes.
The President threw down a gauntlet last night suggesting that he doesn’t care one bit what the American people think. Let’s remind him this is not some third world banana republic because here in America, if they choose to do so, the people rule.

I was really angered by a recent (June ‘09) article in the Huffington Post, which demonstrated the kind of arrogant thinking we’ve grown accustomed to. The article by Reese Schonfeld (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/reese-schonfeld/confessing-error-some-peo_b_211018.html) postulates that the growth in conservative tv and radio commentary, and the catastrophic decline in viewers and listeners of major networks and other liberal outlets, is due to angry conservatives looking for someone to blame. He portrays viewers and listeners of Fox, Limbaugh, and other conservative outlets as misguided, poor losers, intolerant, rich socialites with nothing better to do with their lives than listen to talk radio.
It was good to read some of the comments following the article, and recognize that everyone doesn’t accept Schonfeld’s dribble as fact. Many of the brief comments point out the obvious liberal bias in most media, and the recent failure of media to serve as “watchdogs” of public interest.
Perhaps Schonfeld’s analysis would be more credible if he could recognize his own arrogance, and his inability to undersand that listeners, viewers, and readers may have the capacity to think for themselves.
You’re doing a great job with the website.
I desperately disagree with just about everything the Obama administration is doing. He is leaving our troops out to dry. This Obamanation is an obomination! People also seem only to willing to trust the government with our healthcare, believing everything they hear from the left wing media and polititians. I keep looking online for meet up groups or tea parties in my area so that I can find like minded people but have been unsuccessful so far.
